 Xibalba be...

Xibalba means 'underworld' and 'be' means 'road'.

In Mayan mythology xibalba be was the road to hell. It was the journey of Mayan civilisation in the 15th century.

It was the journey of the Mayan, Spanish and Amerindian populations of Guatemala since long back in history, and in particular from 1960 to 1996.

In 1996 36 years of civil war officially came to an end.

Guatemala is home to the largest Mayan population, about 40% of the people, and although Spanish is the country's official language the administration recognises a total of 23 indigenous languages, 21 of which are distinct Mayan languages (languages, not dialects).

The culminating date of the Mayan calendar, when, according to the ancient astronomers of Tikal, time will cease to be, is the year 2012.
