hwyl...

Hwyl (pron; hay-el) is Welsh for 'good spirit' or 'enthusiasm', but also 'goodbye' or 'good luck.'

Hwyl - hwyliau in plural - has a variety of meanings: the sail of a ship, having fun (like 'craic' in Irish), mood, or passion. 'Hwyl' also means 'feeling' or 'state of mind', as in 'Sut hwyl oedd arno fe?' which means 'how is he?' (or literally: 'What kind of a mood was upon him?').

More important Welsh phrases:

'Mae fy hofrenfad yn llawn o lyswennod…'  'My hovercraft is full of eels…')

'annigonol ydy un iaith / dyw un iaith byth yn ddigon …' ('One language is never enough') local government slogan

Of the total population only 20% are Welsh speakers, mainly in the northwest.

Freed from the memory
Escape from our history…
But everything must go
And if you need an explanation
Then everything must go…
